Parenting Without The Woo
A quick read! I was gifted Baby Wise I to teach my newborn independent sleep and it worked great. My baby has slept through the night since he was 8 weeks old. So I purchased Baby Wise II to see what other practical and tangible parenting guidance was advised. These themes/methods can come across as "old school" but are still very practical in 2023.- We insist on a parent-run household (not a child-ran household).- We teach boundaries and do not have baby gates or physical barriers in our home.If these parenting strategies align with your parenting goals, then this book series is for you.Start early, start young, and start now.

Very effective but must be tailored to baby's own needs
Highly recommend. This book made a huge difference for us and our son was sleeping through the night by 3 months and has never had sleep issues. Had he not been born a preemie, I'm sure he would have slept through the night even sooner. Understanding how to schedule your child's sleep routine and feedings so that they get enough calories and adhere to sleep times that allow them the ability to sleep through the night is key. It's also helpful in identifying sleep regressions before they arrive so that you can quickly adapt. That being said, there is no one-size fits all book for every child. Every family has to decide what will work for them, coupled with the advice from a reputable pediatrician. We did not follow the book's strategy 100%, and no one probably should. I don't even think it's meant to be read that way. But rather, it gives you the ideal situation and you tailor that to your baby's own needs.I have heard of unfortunate stories where people who followed the Babywise theory ended up with medical issues. So again, I would emphasize, that common sense, the advice of a Dr, and this book, will help you get a schedule that works for your family. No one should disregard practical medical guidelines.

Ok, but the first Baby Wise Book more helpful.
Maybe it's because I'm a first time mom, but I found the first Baby Wise book was super helpful! I have stuck with the schedule loosely (to follow the book to a T is too rigid is a bit impractical) and our daughter has thrived having a schedule. My baby was sleeping through the night by 2 months (not every night but several a week) and now that she's passed the 12 pound threshold she sleeps through the night every night. This second book is not as informative, but still has useful information about introducing solids and dropping naps. If you are wanting to learn about sleep training and getting your baby on a schedule I highly recommend the first Baby Wise. The second one deals with introducing solids, and I've found Google to be just as helpful.

So Helpful!
This has been so helpful navigating having our first baby! You’ll want this! (Even if this isn’t your first baby).

Highly recommend!
I have read this completely after finishing the first book. I really like these books. This one covers what is on the horizon for my little one, so haven’t put the ideas and principles into practice yet, but if you are a fan of the first book (recommended by my pediatrician and a real life changer for us), this book walks you through the second half of the first year. Looking forward to it all! I especially like the ‘begin as you would go’ idea.

Teething?
I bought this to help guide parenting from 5 months to 1 year. Really disappointed that teething is mentioned maybe twice in the whole book when it is such a huge part of baby life during this stage. Teething affects sleep, and sleep is the core of the Babywise method. Maybe they don’t want to give medical advice? But barely mention it? In my opinion there should be a whole chapter devoted to teething.Otherwise the book was pretty good, although a little dogmatic about the rules around feeding. I understand they have their way, but sometimes this series feels like they’re pushing an agenda.I will probably still buy the rest of the series, but expected more from Babywise 2 since Babywise was 5/5.
