Susan Bates 5-1/2-Inch Bamboo Handle Silvalume Head Crochet Hook, 8mm, Silver Pink (13206-L 11)

The bamboo makes it comfortable and the pointed head makes it easier than regular hooks. I have a collection of the Susan Bates hooks cuz they make that much of a difference.

I am an avid, experienced crocheter. I am used to using the regular, cheap, aluminum hooks you find at the stores. They make my hands tired and I get cramps from crocheting.I bought a few of these in various sizes - the bamboo handles are awesome! They use the heat from my hand and reflect it back, so it keeps my hands from aching. The hook is light weight, and the handle is a little wider than a normal aluminum hook, so it's way more comfortable!The head of the hook is "sawed" style - not rounded - if that matters to you - some prefer one over the other - I'm still on the fence (I know.... one would think I would have decided after 14 years of crocheting, but I haven't decided).I have tried to collect a complete set of these, but I can't seem to find a few sizes - I wish I could find them all in one large set. I only just found a set of 14 for around 40$ with S&H, which is a little cheaper than buying them at around 5$ per hook, but it's from an external site (not on amazon) and I'm picky who I buy through - for security reasons. Hopefully Amazon will sell sets of these, soon!I definitely recommend this product! Happy Crocheting!!

The bamboo handle makes this a very comfortable and well balanced hook.

Didn’t have any problems with this hook! I loved that it had the wood handle. It was not super heavy. It was easy to use. The price is great. It’s been hard to find any crochet hooks in my area, so I resorted to buying this one. I was so pleasantly surprised!

I am on the fence with these. I have used and loved Susan Bates hooks the entire time I have crocheted and have never had an issue. These, however, have got me wondering. I purchased 4 different sizes and each have the same problem.The Susan Bates hooks I had been using doesn't have the bamboo handles and they are different from these. For example, the heads of the bamboo handle hooks are more rounded and the throats aren't as smooth so the yarn doesn't slide smoothly. You can clearly see the grooves in the bamboo handled hooks. I love the bamboo handles, I'm just not crazy with the difference in the heads and throats of them when both are supposed be be inline. I have attached pictures to show the difference compared with my original Susan Bates hooks.

I absolutely love there hooks! I'm so sad that Susan Bates have discontinued these. They have replaced the bamboo handle with a newer, slimmer plastic handle. I have broken one of the new handled ones already but have never broken a bamboo handled one. Sure there are other hooks out there with bamboo handles but I hate using any other hooks as Susan Bates have that deep groove to hold your yarn better and the sharp tip for ease of getting into tight stitches. These are my favorite by far!

Bamboo handles are hard for me to hold on to, BUT I bought this for the deep and pointed hook, so it's perfect. By pointed hook, I mean that the lip on the hook is flat and sharp (not that it would cut), but it helps me to crochet so much faster than other brands.

These hooks are great and ergonomic. Have purchased multiple.
