WD 40GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive Review
I recently bought this hdd and received it yesterday. The drive is new as indicated by Cortese Inc. The drive needs to be initialized by Windows to be used. It works great! I bought this to clone my bad ide drive to this one and planning on buying 2 more to keep as backups. The bad ide drive has car repair software and uses Windows 98SE --windows doesn't have start menu--and my attempts to use a sata hard drive or ssd don't work with 98SE. Therefore, I am using ide drives until I can figure out a way to either get a sata drive or ssd to work with 98SE or upgrade 98SE to XP by booting off of the cd, which my install cd doesn't allow and since my 98SE doesn't have a start menu, I can't upgrade inside windows. If someone knows how, please add a comment to my reply.

Oldie But Goodie
I needed a spare backup hard drive to replace a dying one inside my Yamaha digital instrument recorder (a 1600). Since it was limited to a 40GB model maximum, I wanted to use something I knew worked well and tended to last. I've had good luck with the Western Digital models in several Dell desktops from days gone by, so I picked one of these up. It worked right out of the sealed Mylar sleeve with no issues. If you're stuck with a system that is limited due to hardware or firmware, these drives work great. Always get the 7200rpm version.

Perfect condition - zero errors
Needed some backup drives for some ancient business systems. This one is a bit too large for one truly ancient DOS computer with the 32GB limit but works great with all of the others. Appeared to be in brand new condition.

"One big scam"
The product was a dud from the get-go. I installed it but was completely dead. The HD light did not go on and unit became hot as hell and fried my mother board. To keep my business going, I had to go out and buy a new desk top. I am now over $200 in the hole because of this $18 piece of crap. The seller of this item lied his ass off, the item was never tested. As a good customer of Amazon for many, many years, I must now rethink my options and parts supplier. No stars.

Ide Hard Drive
I have a Dell 4100 that pretty old and needs a new hard drive. Since this one has an IDE type, this 40gb seemed a good place to start. The price was right and not too much lost if I can't make it work. I can always salvage the magnets out and do some other things with them. The vendor did a super job on getting my order filled and getting the item to me in a very short period of time. I wish everyone could be so prompt in filling their orders. Thank you!I may try to use this as an external hard drive. Right now that's how I have it setup. If you want fast service and decent prices this is the place.
