Welch Allyn 97-MDS-CMN Standard Diagnostic Set with Coaxial Ophthalmoscope, MacroView Otoscope and Nickel Cadmium Rechargeable Handle

Worth it if you need to have one in your pocket at all times. Super durable. Batteries last even though they are cadmium nickel, but the replacement batteries from Welch Allyn can be expensive. Easy to use. Has all the necessary functionality. Gold standard in my book.

This is a brand new Welch Allyn set in all packaging. Works great, as was expected. Same as the instruments used in the office, although the macro otoscope is new to my use. Did have to order the veterinary specula separately. Nicely cased to throw in my doctor bag. I tried a less expensive set but the optics were awful. Arrived super fast. So good to have Welch Allyn quality again. Great set, great seller. Thanks so much!

I found out from my instructor today that the ophthalmoscope has a defective lense . It has something blocking part of the lense. I called Amazon customer service and they tell me to contact manufacturer myself. They said it is outside of the window for return . I am a student, I did not know the item was defective until I was taught in class and did not know about it until today . I dont want to return the whole thing or demand money back, I just want to exchange for an item that works but they still say no. This item is not cheap. Please save yourself some trouble !

Scopes arrived in the traditional high quality expected by Welch Allyn. As a new NP (and an old nurse) I am super excited to finally own this set. I a saddened by the condition of the case. it looks as if it had been crushed at some point.

Works well, the head is cross compatible with the wall mounted ones. Can use various batteries. 09/30/24: Update, still going strong. Works well for medical school and field use. I would recommend going with this if you are on a HPSP contract. Rechargeable battery works well for school use and the disposable works well for the field as the exchange has extra batteries. I wish the carrying case had some better space efficiency and was either a bit smaller or if it had a space for extra ear tips without creating extra bulk. Ideally if I was on a fixed budget with only 3 "premium items" I would go with this set again with a nicer stethoscope and my Butterfly US probe.

I bought the Welch-Allyn standard Otoscope/ ophthalmoscope set with the coaxial head to become proficient at ear and eye exams before clinical starts. This set works so much better than I would have thought based on other reviews. It came packaged as it should with no complaints in regards to shipping or use. I visualized the tympanic membrane with ease and was able adequately see the structures of the retina with little to no practice. I decided to go with the standard set based on recommendations from various blogs to force myself to familiarize myself with the coaxial Ophthalmoscope as this is the most common type in clinics and hospitals. Later, I may purchase the panoptic head but I am very pleased with the set I purchased.
