Perfect for rest and meditation
I love this so much. I bought one to play in my preschool classroom at quiet time, plus two more as baby shower gifts. They were so affordable and I just love the idea of global lullaby collection. The Irish, Gaelic, and Israeli tracks were predictably easy on my ears because I grew up with those sounds, but I also love the Cambodian and Chilean tracks. Lovely. I love me some Mozart and Brahms, but I can't listen to the same thing every single day! This is a beautiful and refreshing album to throw into your kiddos' resting playlist, or your meditation playlist. It is soothing and addictive but not especially childish.

Found this album again after many years
And I'm glad I did! A great compilation of lullabies from all over the world, it's interesting to hear all the different cultures back to back. Great for establishing mellow vibes. Even better for naps :)

Achingly beautiful
I bought this CD to play for my newborn during her bedtime routine. Too say the music is beautiful is an understatement. It transports us to another time and space as soon as we hit play, with soothing sounds and a universal message that can be conveyed through language barriers. The CD incorporates music from the Iroquois nation, Cape Breton, Algeria, New Zealand, Chile, Israel, India, Germany, Bosnia, Japan, Haiti, Cambodia, France, Cameroon, and Ireland and it comes complete with background on each country/ethnicity, the story behind the recording and translation of the lyrics. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for music for a nursery, classroom or just soothing meditative quality music for themselves.

Beautiful
I love this cd, it is truly beautiful. More importantly, my son loves it. It soothes him quickly and helps him fall asleep. The only complaints I have are that song 10 can occasionally disturb my son after he has fallen asleep to this cd and also song 16 is just unpleasant to both myself and my son but may not be to others. The songs on this cd probably will not all fit most Americans' idea of a lullaby but it is still a very soothing and beautiful cd.

Great music but not good for bedtime
I love this CD for calming music during the day or even just to listen to while we drive around town. The songs are great and really enjoyable, but some are a little too hyper for a lullaby CD. They seem to wake my daughter up. But I'd still buy the CD hands down because I like the songs so much.

Such a WONDERFUL little album
Such a WONDERFUL little album. I learned about this when my guide on a spiritual retreat in New Mexico played this while we did our nightly free movement dancing in the moonlight. True story. This music is great even if you don't have kids. I know this to be true because I have none. No one would want to reproduce with the likes of me. Anyway, you should totally get this!

Misnamed
While this cd does have a varies selection of music from other countries, the songs are not really conducive to sleep. Another reviewer mentioned the high pitch of many songs as jarring, which I agree with. Also, a few of the reviewers praised the booklet that came with the cd, but they didn't mention that it describes 33 songs while this cd actually only has 16..... Perhaps it originally was a 2 cd set??
