Awesome Cruiser with Off-Road Abilities
This is an awesome, simple and fun bike; especially for the price. Like any low-end complete bike, there are going to be components that need to be changed right away, but they are mostly easy fixes and mostly things you'll want to fit to your preferences, anyhow. Front to rear:The tires and rims are perfect, right out of the box. The 36 hole rims, surprisingly, are good, stiff double-walled aluminum units that could possibly be made by Alex. Heavy but strong. They are even machined for caliper brakes, just in case you decide to add a set. The hub is smooth enough to leave alone for now.The forks are heavy but sturdy. I think they'll hold up. Stem is the modern, threadless style. It keeps to the heavy-but-sturdy theme and I'd leave it except that it fits 7/8" steel handlebars and most good 'bars have 25.4 or 31.8 mm diameters these days. And the 'bars it comes with are heavy and ugly and put my wrists at the wrong angle when they are set to the right reach. Both have got to go.The frame, of course, is the critical point and the whole reason you'd buy a bike. Heavy but strong, once again. It's beautiful, but don't expect it to pass as 'vintage'. The oversized tubing alone gives it away, and, more importantly, you can tell it was designed for grown-ups instead of being something that was made for 12-year-old newspaper boys long ago and repurposed for off-road, like the real klunkers of the late '70s. Really there are only three things I can think of that should be changed with the frame: the tabs where the rear wheel mounts are too short and may require a half-link chain with some gear combinations, the chainstay tubes are really big and are not indented for clearance with the crankset and sprocket, and, inexplicably, there is an unnecessary tab welded on the left side of the frame to bolt the coaster brake reaction arm to, but no provisions on the right to mount a derailleur like a true klunker would've had in The Day.The crankset is junk. They didn't even torque the crank arm bolts to make it easier to remove. The seat got binned after the first ride. It reminds me of the crappy things we used to put on BMX bikes back in The Day that only worked because we never sat down; other than the fact that this one is heavy. You'll want a quick-release seat clamp while you are at it. The chain is a premium-quality KMC item just like they sell at the local bike shop, expect that it doesn't use a master link. I had to shorten it a notch and didn't have a chainbreaker the right size or a chrome master link on hand.Last thing I can think of is the coaster brake. It is the inevitable Hi-Stop kid's bike unit, and it is rough and draggy and will not tolerate much abuse from a 175-200 (or more) lb. adult, especially off road. You are not going to finish a Coast Brake Challenge race on that thing. Luckily a VeloSteel copy of the old F&S Torpedo swapped right in, with the original spokes. You might get lucky with a vintage Bendix or a recent Shimano, too.Anyhow; it's a great bike and rates a solid five stars at this price. Even at twice the price I'd give it four.

Great bike! Read this if the bottle opener intrigued you.
This is a solid, fun, smooth, good-looking, classic bike. Simple...no cables, levers, shifters, derailleurs, etc. It makes me feel it's 1980 again...I'm 12, and I'm bouncing my Mongoose over every bit of infrastructure that had the bad luck to be in my way. I'll have it until I take a dirt nap. Only two fairly superficial gripes...the placement of the mounting holes for the water bottle cage AND the placement of the bottle opener (which I was actually planning to use). Both are pretty much in the middle of the down tube and seat tube, respectively. This renders a full-sized water bottle unusable; you must get a short, low capacity bottle or the lower top tube/head tube junction will get in the way. The bottle opener is too close to the crank; actually opening a bottle can be done, but there just isn't enough room and it's awkward. Oh...and if you do mount a water bottle cage, you cannot use the bottle opener anyway; they are mutually exclusive due to being crammed together toward the bottom of the frame. I may be naïve to the requirements of frame manufacturing, but it seems that if they moved the bottle opener up the seat tube, and the water bottle cage mounting holes down the down tube, all would be well (use of both AND full-sized water bottle). I offered this insight to the company, which I'm sure they didn't need my help to recognize, but...crickets. I'm pretty sure that with the designed placement, the bottle opener is mainly intended to be a marketing gimmick anyway. Don't forget...I still love the bike, and if this one gets stolen I'd buy another.

Cheap
I use it daily to get to work 2 blocks away from home. It's been 3 months and the seat is broken, the chain comes off everyday, the forks keep coming out of alignment, the grips are melting, the wheel reflectors fell off and are broken, the seat post reflector fell off and broke, the paint easily scratches. It's a little tall if you put the seat high for speed on long cruises, I'm 5'11" and my toes barely touch the ground so I have to put the seat lower which means less speed. Maybe with a few upgrades it won't be so bad.

Very Happy With Bike
I ride this bike 4 times a day and I love it.The support at State Bicycle has been excellent. This is a simple, low maintenance bike - no cables, no de-railers, etc.Just a single speed bike with coaster brakes (which I love). It's very simple to assemble, only took me about 15 minutes (with no instructions).Unfortunately, State Bicycle requires the bike to be professionally assembled, or (if you choose to assemble it yourself as I did) they void the warranty.I do think $420 for a basic bike made in China is too much. That said, I love the bike and I do recommend it.

Great customer service
Received the box with a hole in it and pedals, grips missing. Also, had a package of screws ad bolts in it that were clearly not related to the package. So there must have been some funny business with the actual shipping/receiving. However the customer service at State Bicycle was very responsive and took care of everything quickly. Second bike from this company. Very happy with the service.Love the bike!

Damaged
Frame came damaged. Excited about the bike but shouldn’t have to pay full price for a bike that comes looking used
