BONSAI TREE KIT

The kit is very easy to follow and I'm someone who has never grown anything before, never mind from seeds. After reading the instructions I understood that it's a 3-10 week + process. I followed instructions perfectly and I have a Norway spruce starting to sprout after only 2 weeks! With the extra seeds I decided to see if they would work by putting them ontop of wet kitchen roll in individual pots and I now have a Scot's pine and another Norway spruce starting to sprout which I will soon put into small pots with compost. I will update my review in a month or so if any progress. I'm really pleased so far.

At the time of writing this it is still too early for any of the seeds to have grown, so this review wil mainly be talking about the contents of the box. I have had several Bonsai tree kits in the past and can honestly say that this is one of the best I've seen so far. The box is strong and well printed, it clearly shows the types of trees you can grow with this set (Red maple, scots pine, judas tree, wild orchid, dawn redwood). Inside the box you get a pack of each type of seed, mini growing pots, soil pellets, plant markers + pencil, plastic bags, tools, and an instruction guide. The quality of this set is very high, nothing feels overly cheap, you even get far more seeds than you will actuall need, so if you fail at growing anything the first time, or want to try growing more, you will have the oportunity to save some seeds for later use. The instructions are printed in a small book and have been written in multiple languages, it is written clearly and everything is easy to follow. As I mentioned at the start it's too early for my seeds to have grown yet, but I for the price I would recommend this set if it's something you have been wanting to try out.

Bought the bonsai kit as part of my new midlife crisis, been working in the garden all spring and summer and decided to try a more sedate past time. Kit is really good overall, everything you need to start out and very clear instructions. However, one of the varieties i was most looking forward to was the red maple. Sadly, this variety was missing from the selection and replaced with.... Organic carrot seeds Tried every social media source available to see someone growing a bonsai carrot tree without success. I have contacted seller through Amazon and tried calling them but as yet no reply. Other than that, a great purchase Now searching for bonsai potatoe trees, will let you know how it goes

*update* - mould continued to spread, so decided to check the seeds under the soil, and the seeds themselves were covered in mould (see picture) so decided to refund. So, I planted these on Saturday, followed the instructions to the letter. I even read the reviews about mould being a problem, so took extra care to make sure my hands were thoroughly washed before touching any of the items inside the box to reduce the chance of mould sprouting. It has been 5 days after planting, and mould has already started spreading. I noticed it first at the base of the wooden stick (the part sticking in the soil) and then also on the side of the cardboard pots. I've gone to the effort of taking the pots out if the bags now, in hope no more mould spreads. So buyer beware; check for mould every day!

I can see that this item is currently unavailable, and I am guessing that this is just because demand is outstripping supply, so hopefully Urban Turnip will get that sorted soon. Why the high demand? - product is worth six stars if that was possible. There are more seeds for every variety than you need to start a wee family of bonsai trees. All of the equipment is there, and just follow the instructions. My experience so far? - purchase was followed up by an email offering extra help and information. I'm a complete beginner and started with Scots pine as advised. Have discarded 2 from the warming bowl (non-viable), and planted 6. The experience is already worth what I paid, and I still have the other (more difficult) varieties to try out, using the stratification kit included. I'd like to edit with updates and photos as the bonsai journey continues if anyone else is interested? Edit 1. Scots Pine - lost patience and planted all the seeds - now have 7 (SEVEN) Scots pine seedlings up in the pot. Also planted all of the Dawn Redwood seeds at one go - and I have one Dawn Redwood seedling growing, waiting for his friends:) The more difficult ones with stratification required will need to wait until this weekend . Really enjoying this pack.

My mother loved gardening, and I would always marvel at how she revelled in watching plants grow from scratch. She passed away recently and when I saw this I thought of her and I wanted to try it myself. I am definitely a novice, but the different components all come in neat little packages with a very succinct and clearly explained instruction booklet, that even I could easily understand. I decided I would start with the Red Maple seeds as it reminded me of my recent trip to Japan and it was very easy to follow the instructions and sow the seeds. I will now wait patiently (or at least try to!) for the next few weeks to see the seeds germinate and can’t wait to see my beautiful Bonsai tree created from scratch. Then I will move onto the Dawn Redwood, Judas Tree, Mountain Pine and Cornelian Cherry Dogwood and create a little tree for each room in our house. I also have other friends whom I will be thoroughly recommending this product to, as it is so easy to follow and a brilliant idea for a gift. In fact I wish I had seen this before Christmas as It would have been a wonderful gift for a lot of people that I know!

Having followed the instructions precisely, only 3 seeds from the entire pack ever germinated, and all from the "easiest" of the varieties in the pack.

Bought this item and it arrived very quickly (prime next day). It comes in a nice little box that would make a great gift for someone who is into gardening. I bought mine for myself as I have been reading about bonsai and wanted to give it a go. I'm looking forward to watching these seeds become trees over the next few years. The cutting tools that come with it seem to be a really nice quality but obviously I won't be needing them for a LONG while. I like that it has 5 different tree species in it and this is one of the reasons I bought it because I couldn't decided what species to grow. The instruction leaflet is a great starting place and basically says what to do with the seeds to get them to germinate. I think the purchase of a separate book or internet research is definitely needed if you are a beginner like me, in order to learn about the ongoing care of bonsai trees.
