steel probing rod worked well
This steel probing rod worked well and helped me to find my septic tank and tank cover. It is very well made and is made of high quality materials.

Excellent, except for the Tip
Well made, smooth shaft, & hard steel. As others have pointed out, the over-sized threaded tip hardly makes sense. And as others have done, I cut off the tip and made a pencil point using an angle grinder secured onto a jawhorse.Another modification I made was to modify a 1" SDS+ post driver bit to carve out a U channel. The bit mounted onto a hammer drill can then drive the probe almost effortlessly into the ground.I used the probe to determine the orientation of an oil tank buried 3 ft below the surface. The probe did the job.

It did it’s job
Worked but not easy to use if the ground is hard.

If you need to find underground pipes this is it!
I love this thing. The idiot that put in a sprinkler system over 4 acres without writing anything down on the land and home I just purchased refused to tell me where the pipes were. That's because he was using well water but also tapped into the neighbors city water line. It made no sense that I still had a 10 foot geyser after turning off my well pump. After digging numerous holes between1 and 5 feet deep to trace the pipes trying to find a leak I had had it and ordered this probe. I couldn't be happier. It goes into the damp earth like sliding into fine sand and it has allowed me to find over 400 feet of 1" pipes in just 2 days. The hole digging method was taking its toll on me. I'm a 55 year old Disabled US Army Veteran and digging 3-4 foot holes in 98 degree weather with the Georgia humidity is really not conducive to living well. Anywaythis probe has a detachable screw on pointed tip that I was worried might puncture the lines but you can definitely feel a line through the probe and once you get used to the feeling of sliding through the dirt rocks and pipes feel very different. Man, if I had had this thing a couple of weeks ago it would have saved me from a lot of migraines and misery. Make sure the ground is moist to probe easier. The orange and red clay here in Georgia is difficult to initially penetrate but if you get the area damp prior to probing it's super easy. I love this thing so much I might just buy another.

Worked great for me
The ground recently subsided right below my AC condenser after a big rain storm. This probe helped me outline the affected area. It worked well for me.

Can bend
Does the trick if you need an extra long one, but note that it can get bendy in hard soil. Will rust if left out, too, but pretty minimally. Minus one star for the bending.

Better than expected.
So...first of all, this probe is too long. Next, as others have mentioned, the fat end is a lttle difficult to pull out of the ground at times. The good news, both conditions can be addressed at the same time. I cut about 8-10 inches off the end of the rod, and ground the end of the rod to a point. Both problems solved.NOW, it's perfect and worth every penny I spent on it.

Very sturdy
After ordering my first probe that turned out to be hollow fiber glass I returned it and aimed to find a solid steel probe and this ones the one I found. It will come in handy but im going to remove that cap on the bottom and get someone to sharpen it to a point so its easier to get into the ground. Not sure why they have such a big cap on the tip, it just works against you. Im very happy with it. The solid steel probes are 100% better than those hollow fiber glass type. Fyi, be sure you want a probe 100% before you buy it because that first one was hard to return. Canada post said the box was too big so I cut the box up and duct taped it together as small as I could get it. I think they just felt bad for me when I came back with that mangled box but tgey took it and now I know to be very certain about buying certain bigger than normal items.

Quality is good
I honestly never knew these existed, but i started treasure hunting and needed a tool to help me limit my digging. The quality is good, its sturdy and breaks through the ground well. I have tested it in my yard but am yet to get out in the field with it. If it helps me find the treasure i will have to find a way to give it 6 stars, hahaha. Will update over time as i use it in different terrains.
