The best
The only brands I ever trusted in over three decades now were MK, Crabtree (including their sister brand Volex for budget installations) and Contactum (difficult to get hold of these days, but always good).MK of course lead the way in stylishness and switch action and slick look. They’re a little fiddly to fit compared to Crabtree which you get the hang of. The reliability is always there, unlike some of the newer brands. Most still made in the UK, if that matters to you.

Mk light switch
Mk light switch a great product and at a great price Mk are world leaders in electrical products and home market products and switches and they have the best record in safety I highly recommend any Mk switches. I am so sorry to change what I have already said about Mk but this switch did not live up to what I had expected I could not get the screws to tighten down on to the light cables so the switch turned out to be useless.

The screws that hold the wires are long enough after all
I thought that the screws that secure the wires were too short. It turns out that they are just really tight and require a strong but tiny screwdriver and a bit of brute force.

Can’t Go Wrong with MK
Bought to replace some 40 year old MK switches from the last rewire. After 40 years the switches, whilst still working had obviously become worn and were getting a bit baggy on their operation. These were a very simple like for like swap, but if you don’t know what you’re doing, get a sparky to do it.MK is probably the best known and most reliable manufacturer of electrical products. Why would you skimp and go for a cheap alternative where electricity is concerned.

Known high quality brand.
British made light switch from a respected company. Easy to install. Replacing a 20 year old dimmer switch in a bedroom. Back to on / off lighting again but with a LED bulb.

Dangerously flawed!
The brass screws that are supposed to clamp down on the wires are ridiculously short and do not even begin to a apply pressure on the wires. Even if the conductor is a doubled-back there is no grip whatsoever when the screw is tightened to its max. This is dangerous because someone installing this switch may believe that since they tightened the screw the conductor is safely clamped in. When installing a switch you are usually pushing the switch toward the switch box as you tighten the grub screw so the wires stay in position. If someone were to then just screw the switch back to the box without pulling the wires to test they are secure first then the wires would likely make contact with the switch, so the switch would work, but it would be just a touch contact, resulting in a point of high resistance which could get hot enough to start a fire! These switches (or the affected batches) should not be sold and ideally should be recalled from anyone that has bought them.
