Excellent product
The foot dimmer switch on our up-lighter had been damaged so we tried to find a replacement switch as we did not want to send the whole thing to landfill. The previous switch had a light on it which we found very useful for locating it in a darkened room. On doing the search we found 2 very similar products, this one and one which advertised that it had a light. As the latter was quite a bit more expensive, taking initial cost and p&p into account we decided to go for the cheaper one. It arrived very promptly and we were pleased to see that it does actally have a locator light.I left fitting it to my other half. It seems that the instructions were not entirely clear, but he has enough knowledge of electrics to be able to sort it out. It works well and was much cheaper than buying a new up-lighter.

Nice unit shame about the instructions
Solid little unit, which works fine, however the instructions came in Spanish (I think). Fortunately I am not too bad with basic electrics so I managed to understand the diagram. I have attached a photo to show you what it looks like inside and how to wire it in

Review of In-Line foot dimmer for floor standing light
Excellent product.Need to be very careful when carrying out installation as some instructions are in Italian.Diagram for wiring is clear though.Once set up works really well.Simple to use and good value compared to other pricey alternatives that are available.

Tricksy
It does the job I wanted it to. However, it was difficult to open the unit to wire it up, and in the end I risked forcing the top and bottom sections apart. The instructions are incomprehensible, with even the diagrams showing conflicting information so you will need a little basic knowledge to wire it up correctly.

Crudely manufactured and potentially dangerous.
Purchased to replace an older and similar model. The quality and finish is shockingly poor compared to the earler model. The retaining screws are countersunk cross head mixed with slotted screws heads on the wiring bar!More importantly there is no shroud or other protection between the slider aperture and the circuit board. The circuit board is visible and accessible. The dangers are obvious.

Solid replacement
Solidly made and straightforward to wire up. Unlike some earlier versions mentioned in other comments, this one had instructions in English.

Not what I'd hoped for!
This seems like an unfair comment to make but I must explain. I ordered this item in good faith and from the product description it seemed to fit my requirements which were ''a floor dimmer for my standard lamp'' However when it arrived there was a label on the box which said that this unit was not suitable for dimming 12volt halogen bulbs which I'm sure was not made clear of the listing or I didn't understand it so it went straight back in it's packaging and was returned to the supplier. It was never even taken out of it's box so I cannot comment on it's efficiency.I must say that the supplier were very good about it and they have already credited my account with the purchase price; however I'm still out of pocket as it cost me £4 to return the item and so far nothing to show for it.

Does the job
I bought this for my par can stage light because a friend had one on his. It's dead simple once fitted - just slide to dim. Every lighting or stage shop tried to sell me an expensive theatrical multi-box, denying the existence of this simple product. It took a while to find and it appears to be unbranded. It is made in Italy and the wiring instructions are NOT clear and the wiring block inside didn't correspond to the diagram. I asked an electrician just to be safe, and basically the earth and neutral wires double up. If in doubt get it done professionally. If your requirements are simple, this does the job.
