Excuse Me: A Little Book of Manners (Lift-the-Flap Book)

Great for learning manners!
I’m always looking for books to read my little ones that will teach them something. This one is so cute and perfect! My 21 month old says thank you and she’s learning’s more every day! She also loves the lift flaps, they keep her engaged. My 4 year old enjoys it to and can even read it to the baby;) it has really big flaps compared to other flap books but it’s great! Good quality and the flaps haven’t ripped so far even though they’ve been tugged on pretty hard;) great book!

Adorable and to the Point!
First I must say the price of this book was very reasonable. I find so many children's books to be so grossly overpriced, honestly. We love this book - the illustrations are so cute and adorable - visually easy for a young child to comprehend and enjoy. The writing is simple, to the point (important with a toddler!) and holds my child's interest. The flaps are a bonus - our son likes to help open them and listens for the answer to such questions like "When you burp, what do you say?" ("Excuse Me!"). I think this is a wonderful first manners book for any baby/toddler.

"you broke a friend's toy" and "your loved ones tuck you in") to account for a wider ...
Such a cute book! My two year old son likes to read it by himself. It reinforces the manners that we teach. We revise some of the words when we read it to make it fit. It does have a page that says "You broke your baby sister's toy" and then "mommy and daddy tuck you in at night". I feel that it could've been a little more generic (such as, "you broke a friend's toy" and "your loved ones tuck you in") to account for a wider range of familial diversities, but overall I like it.

“No thank you” to Veggies “Yes please” to Treats
I normally love the Karen Katz books, but felt the first page provides a negative feeling towards eating vegetables as “No thank you” then a few pages later “Yes please” to Treats. In addition to manners I’m trying to teach my child healthy eating habits and my child is one of those kids who really relates to books. So although some of the other pages were great and I loved the manners language, for me this was not a good fit and I’ll be returning.

PERFECT FOR A LITTLE ONE
Went ahead and got this book for 4 month old grandson. Manners are lacking in some youth today. This was the first book I purchased for him. I want him to grow up with manners. It is very easy to read. And I like the fact that he will get to flip up the pages when he is older. It will be a very easy book for him to read when he gets older. I am also going to use this book with a book club I am starting for youth. I highly recommend this book for adults to purchase who want to teach the basics of manners to youth.

Great for a two year old
This is an adorable book. The fact that it teaches manners is an added bonus. To me, the importance is that my two year old granddaughter can "read" it herself. At first I thought she could just give me the answers to the questions and that was cute enough. But then I overheard her "reading" it to her baby doll. What great self confidence this builds in a toddler. It is the best time to start building self esteem and making a child feel "smart".

It is okay, but examples aren't perfect
I have a 2.5 year old son, and I ended up changing the wording to the story when I read it to him. I was a little disappointed by the examples that were used to teach manners, because my child didn't catch on as to why, for example, he would say "no thank you" when asked if he wanted peas for breakfast. My son would be willing to eat peas for breakfast! Also, I didn't like the reference that you say thank you to Grandma only when you get an extra special gift. Why couldn't the wording be, when you receive _any_ gift?I change "when you break your sister's toy" to "when you break your friend's toy" for saying sorry.Minor issues. It is an "okay" book, but not excellent.

Manners!
I purchased a ton of books from amazon...this book by far is my daughter's FAVORITE!!! She request that I read it more than once. I like the lift a flap after posing the various question to my daughter...she really likes the colorful photos and actions of the child ...This is the book to teach your child manners/what to do when she burps, breaks someones toy etc.

Everyday situations that children can easily relate to
We have a lot of Karen Katz' books. They appeal to young and bigger kids alike (my almost 7-year-old girl still wants to read them at bedtime!)Plain, simple language. Short, but meaningful sentences. Cute drawings. Everyday situations that children can easily relate to, and learn to face while having fun. It's nice that they see in books what parents and/or caregivers tell them every day, so it doesn't look like I didn't wake up one day and made up my own rules. They realize that it's all part of living together as a society.
