Haba Stacking Toy
This is a Christmas present so it hasn’t been opened yet. However, based on the pictures and description, it’s exactly what I was looking for to teach my granddaughter spatial and fine motor skills in a fun way. I can’t wait to play with it too!

Simple, yet excellent toy!
I’m a big fan of the German brand Haba, and this toy lived up to my high expectations. The wooden pieces are so well made and have a strategically printed front and back side. Some feature the character viewed from the front and back, some have the character facing different directions, and one flips the child between a girl and a boy. Even the box is made sturdier than most board game boxes! There aren’t really any instructions aside from the description on the back of the box, but you don’t really need instructions to figure it out. There are 5 double sided cards with puzzles rated from 1 to 3 stars of difficulty. They stand neatly in the back slot of the wooden platform. If you wanted to introduce one card at a time to your little one, the 1 star card would need 4 characters (to do the front and back side), the two 2 star cards would each need 5 characters, and the two 3 star cards would each need 7 characters. I envision taking pictures of my own puzzles to make more cards that would keep the challenge going for my daughter. The challenge lies not only in stacking the figures, but also in making sure they are facing the correct direction and making sure they are in the correct order from front to back. While not overly difficult for adults, it is sure to be a challenge for toddlers and preschoolers. This simple set of figures also leaves room for you to creatively stack them however you’d like, and can even be introduced to younger children who just want to play with the figures and work on naming them.I’m so pleased with this game! I’m trying to decide whether to put this in my daughter’s Easter basket when she’s around 20 months old or wait until her 2nd birthday later this summer. I foresee getting at least 1-2 years of enjoyment out of this game by keeping it in our toy rotation and adding my own cards of increasing difficulty. One last note: the Amazon title for this game is “Fire On the Farm”, but it has nothing to do with fire and the box only calls it “On the Farm.” I submitted the correction to Amazon, but at the time of my review, it still has fire in the title.

Beautifully made
This is a fun little set for those kids starting at age 2 and older. The 5 larger wooden animals all have a front and a back side. The child is a boy on one side and a girl on the other side. The 2 chickens are the same, front and back. The object of the game is to put a card in the slot of the flat wooden piece and then copy the stacking picture on the card. There are 5 cards, and each has a challenge on the front a back. The cards are starred for difficulty. For an adult, this seems very easy. But for a small child they have to maneuver the chunky sized animals while figuring out front and back and balancing as well as getting the animals in the right order. This takes quite a bit of hand dexterity and cognitive thinking. Sometimes the animals are placed in odd positions.I think this would be good for a 2, 3, and 4 year old. Of course, your child could also just play with these figures on their own and have some real fun. The painting and expressions on these animals/people is very cute. The cards could stand to be a bit thicker, but if there is an adult helping out they will hold up for a long time. This a very well made wooden stacking game and it is going to be a nice addition to our game shelf for the smallest members of our house.

Another great product from HABA
I have been purchasing HABA toys for a very long time. They are definitely pricey, but the ones we own have endured for decades and gone through many little hands. The Farm Stacking toy is another well made product. I’m puzzled why the online description calls it “Fire on the Farm” because that is not relevant to the toy at all, nor does that appear on the box. The set comes with eight smooth chunky wooden figures that are well painted with a lot of details. Most of the animals depict a front and back side, and the person is a girl on one side and a boy on the other. The game includes a stable wooden board and five double sided cards that depict the figures in a variety of positions . The cards slide into a slot on the stand and the goal is to recreate the picture on the card with the wooden figures in the matching positions.. The cards have three levels of difficulty. The more challenging ones require fine motor skills to balance the figures on top of each other. All the cards require the use of spatial skills to determine whether to show the front or back of the animal. Some are even trickier. The pig in my attached photo actually had to be placed partially behind the horse! Children can certainly increase their vocabulary playing with this as they learn the appropriate positional words when replicating the scenarios. They can also come up with their own set ups. Many of the figures in this set also appear in other HABA farm sets, so the game can easily be extended.
