Wetterlings Wildlife Axe (1.2 lbs) with 13" Handle

I have to say, this axe is one of the finest pieces of craftsmanship that I have ever seen. These beauties are handcrafted, with the head being hand forged, and the shaft being hand carved from American Hickory. Mine came relatively quickly, and I immediately went out into the woods for a weekend to test it, along with some other new gear. I loved it,It also came nicely sharpened as well, but I also touched it up just a bit as well to add even more sharpness. It'll trim the hair on your forearm quite nicely, and it will chop wood like a breeze. This axe will also do a great job for making various camp implements, such as makeshift tent stakes (Which I did), and so on.Bottom line: If you need a high quality axe that will get the job done better than most other axes (With the exception of a Gransfors-Bruks), then this is the one. Don't be put off by the price, because it is well worth it. Both of my buddies that went with me that weekend also loved it, and were envious of it.

as lotta points out, this is a really nice axe, and the photo is currently incorrect (as of 27 maech 2017). the 13" hickory handle has a much more ergonomic curve than the (apparently larger) model pictured.for what it is worth, the example i purchased also weighs more than 1.2 pounds (the stated weight in the amazon listing). mine clocks in at 1.666 pounds, or 757 grams. the "sheath" (really just an edge guard) adds 1.2 ounces, or 34 grams. of course this stuff will only matter to weight weenies packing the thing for bushcraft or survival, but that could be me, so there it is.nonetheless, it is a five star product, and mine shaved arm hair right out of the box.

Read elsewhere to expect this to be a second due to Wetterlings closing. There is a slight deflection in the axe head thickness but almost something I'd expect with a hand forged axe head.

A few seconds of sharpening made this too razor sharp. It cut through knots on sticks like cutting through butter. A very fine tool that has good heft and good ergonomics.

Great hatchet, perfect size for a small pack and it gets the job done.
