A very useful book!
I have had this book on a shelf for a very long time, I originally purchased it thinking on teaching high school students and I didn’t really give it the chance. Now that I've finally finished it, I can say that I was wrong! This book brings lots of useful exercises which are originally though out for children, but most of them can also be used or adapted to work with older students and even adults. I think some of the explanations can be a little confusing, and also (since it takes advantage of many traditional games too) it's easy to understand that some of them cannot be applied, or aren't familiar to us in a different cultural context. But I really appreciate the information and I am very happy with my purchase!

It been great in my classroom
I teach sixth grade math, and have a group of students for an exploratory class. We talk about current events, esteem building, community building, fun non-academic skills with an emphasis on social awareness. I have been using this book for most of the year so far, and my students look forward to it,a nd ask for it. I don't have a background in theater, but this book has several premade units that have a focus on different skills. The one I am just completing focuses on community building for the group and concentration and focus for the individual. I find it easy to use, and I like the skills that it is building and reinforcing in my students. If you don't want to do a whole unit, the individual exercises and warm-ups can be set up and completed in 5-10 minutes. Great, and quick!I strongly recommend this for any classroom!

This is an ESSENTIAL book for drama teachers. Too bad I forgot my copy in college and now I can't read a Kindle version for free
This book is great to work with kids, however, while in college I left/forgot my copy in the classroom, and someone took it.Now I needed a kindle version to read for my assignment next week...It's absurd that if you buy the physical copy of the book you're not allowed to have a digital one too...I want to be a drama teacher for lower/middle/high school and I find this book simply essential.Viola Spolin is clear, objective and fun...

Her games make theatre fun
Her games are great for all levels of theatre students. If you are a theatre teacher with a group of kids that are not very motivated to perform in front of others, Spolin's games will get them in the mood. They kids won't recognize that they are actually performing in front of others while playing the games. You will trick them into learning. If your group loves theatre the kids will participate in the games enthusiastically and have a wonderful time exploring the skill or movement being taught. They are written in an easily understood step-by-step format.

Great resource for all
I purchased this book for grad school and found it to be insightful when examining Spolin's work in action. Not only was it useful in research, but the games along with side coaching techniques are so clearly laid out that I was able to immediately begin using it for a fresh approach with my classes. As a teaching artist I teach kindergarten through middle school, and have found many of the games to be easily adaptable for different groups. I highly recommend this book to all!

Finally. ...
Love this book. This purchase is to replace the one I had decades ago, which I loaned to someone that neglected to return. When trying to replace it in the past it has been so costly i have passed it by. This time I found it a reasonable price and snatched it up. Great, great resource.

Not compatible with MAC! Bought 2 copies and neither worked
The first CD rom I received had files supposedly friendly with Mac. I could not access those important files and got this message when I tried toI ordered a second copy planning to return the first CD and when I tried to open those files, received this messageThere is no application to open the documentSearch the App Store for an application that can open this document, or choose an existing application on your computer.and when I tried to open the second file I received this messageYou can’t open the application “Theater Games/Classroom” because it may be damaged or incomplete.Aren't these compatible with MAC and if they are is there a way to open it

Too expensive for what it is.
While this gives a good idea of how to play some of the games and exercises in Spolin's book (which is excellent in my opinion), it is not really comprehensive or in depth. If it was about a tenner, fine. But it is too expensive for what it is and does. Buy the Spolin books. They are outstanding and explore the exercises with your learners.

classic but a bit out of date
I wanted ideas of theatre games to do with children. Haven't found anything useful in the book yet. It all feels a bit old fashioned and obscure, such as exercises exploring 'space'. There are hundreds of exercises in the book so hopefully if I persevere I will come across something good. It's 27 years old and was probably great then.

THE book...if you are a drama teacher
As a drama teacher for six years, I am on the constant look out for Theater games to engage the children. Definitely, Viola Spolin was a stalwart in this field and she in turn was taught by Neva Boyd, who is considered to be the pioneer. So, this book is a definite essential in your library as it teaches a lot of concepts through games.
