Loved this mystery/ adventure story. It is fast paced with quite a lot going on at once. The 3 main characters are brilliant and their relationship is wonderful to see. And of course, can't forget Hisnibs! Fantastic first read of the year. 5⭐️

I couldn’t put The Stolen Songbird down after finishing it within 12 hours and I’m sure you’ll find the same when you read it too. It is lyrical genius; an enchanting story around family, friendships and some dastardly art thieves! Like Emma Carroll and Lesley Parr, Judith has such an innate ability to immerse you in a historical context (we spend the majority in 1959 minus a WW2 prologue & mid-60s epilogue) and create a captivating story, which grips you from the outset. To be honest, for the first 100+ pages, I forgot about the art element of the plot as Judith’s characterisation is sublime and I was transfixed by Caro (don’t call her Caroline!) disobeying her other mother and heading to stay with Gam with her rabbit in tow. From there, there’s a beautiful friendship which develops between Caro, Gam’s ward and staff in the house along with some stunning twists throughout the way.Truly exceptional storytelling, The Stolen Songbird is a fantastic blend of history, art and family – packed full of secrets and intrigue, you’ll be desperately trying to help Caro yourself!

Judith Eagle has created a fabulous cast of characters (my daughter wants the good ones to be her friends) and a gripping plot set in a bygone London brought vividly to life - a book for all seasons, holidays and evenings for readers 9+. The writing is beautiful.

I was completely swept away by Judith Eagle's sublime storytelling in The Stolen Songbird. She excels in creating characters you genuinely care about. A thrilling adventure filled with twists, turns and unexpected revelations. I absolutely loved it!
