An important read for young parents or parents-to-be
I give this book a high score due to the comprehensive approach involved. I initially bought this as a white elephant gift, but my reading showed a clinical but sensitive approach aimed at parents who are facing - or may soon face - this problem in their young children. I was discouraged at first at the various discussions seeming to treat the problem clinically, to be addressed as a problem maybe even requiring laxatives or other medications, but that was balanced by recognition of the point that concerned me most: emotional support for the child. He or she - as Dr. Smith points out - doesn't intend to have an accident, and they need to be comforted away from embarrassment or shame, THEN guided toward the range of options discussed in the book. Dr. Smith adds a critical point, especially in our multi-tasking society: tell the child to take their time (and mean it). If they learn they have to rush to be done, they'll have problems. What the reader should add is important as well: tell the child to take the proper amount of time, but also tell the rest of the family to leave him or her alone to do so. If the little ones constantly hear their elder siblings complaining they can't get in the bathroom, that will reinforce the problem. This is an important read for young parents or parents-to-be.

Good
This is a good book to read to help the parent understand bed wetting. There are other books just as good.
