The busy board is mostly made out of felt (the stiff smooth type, not the fuzzy floppy kind). It has a lot of variety (check out the photos).There are no batteries to wear out or leak. It can make a noise (a squeaky toy behind the music notes).I primarily got this busy board/book to teach my kids how to lace & tie a shoe. I am very satisfied (we'll see what my kids think once we get started). The shoe feels like it will hold up well, and the lace is a good quality round lace that is easy to both tie & untie.Most of the fasteners work well. The buttons are a little stiff (at least at first, they may loosen up over time). The belt is easy to thread through the buckle and just as easy to undo (the buckle couldn't actually hold anything together, but it is fine for practice).You can unzip the middle section from the outer cover (the 2 dark green pages with various fasteners are part of the cover). That zipper might prove frustrating to young children if they try to put the pages back together on their own. It can take a bit of finagling to get the zipper to seat correctly.There are a total of 30 removable felt pieces which can get lost. Each piece has a Velcro-like circle on the back to help is stick better to the board. The "Velcro" circle isn't very scratchy or likely to adhere to or damage most other surfaces. If you don't press the pieces on tightly, they may fall out of the bottom. I couldn't figure out a good place on the board to put the unused pieces while you're working. I think a table or floor is the best place to work with the small pieces. I like the fact that all the small pieces go on the middle section which unzips. If you take the center section out you still have all the fasteners to use.

Missing lots of pieces already, they dont stick super well to the book. overall keeps my kid engaged for a few minutes, but probably better options.

Gave this to a toddler boy who had just become a big brother. He was thrilled. He was excited about it being in the shape of a barn and he could carry it around himself. I probably wouldn't give this to a child younger than age two though. There are still a lot of pieces that can easily be lost. The busy board has a great variety of activities to keep a child busy, learning colors, shapes, and fasteners. Recommended.

The Velcro pieces wouldn’t stick to anything. Waste of money.
