Learning to play
I have wanted to learn to play the piano for years, and have tinkered around with a keyboard in the vain hope that I would pick it up (which of course never happened). So now I have taken the plunge with TEACH ME PIANO DELUX, and what can I say – it proves a promising start.First the negative things. Its American. – not normally a problem with software except that there is a virtual teacher who guides you through the lesions via video and audio clips. It does take a while to get used to the accent. Also, for some reason, the program appears in a window on screen taking up about 1/3 of the actual screen size with the remaining screen being a big black border. It makes the display a little small which can be a problem when you are trying to read the sheet music. You also need to be aware that to get the best out of this teaching system, you already need to have in place a keyboard, soundcard (well, if you PC can play MP3 music, this should not be a problem – my PC has no extra sound card, but can play MP3 and it works just fine), and of course a MIDI connection to the keyboard you want to train on. The produces of the software supply linked products such as the USB MUSIC STUDIO which comes complete with the cable.Once you are connected, the program guides you through all levels of learning to play the piano from locating the middle C, correct use of fingers, reading music, left and right hand techniques and bringing it all together. The lesions are split into hundreds of different exercises, each split into combinations of tempo, notes, left hand, right hand, and all together. Each part uses the MIDO interface to make sure you are doing it correctly and grades you on each part. Constant assessment allows you to see how you are improving – but you can normally tell by instant response from the software ranging in applause for good practise sessions to duck quacks when you get something wrong. In addition to the lesions, the software comes complete with a few hundred tunes to practise which are also taught in the lesions. Games are available to help make the learning of the finger positions and the location of the notes on the sheet music. The games make an interesting alternative to the lesions and help teach the most complex parts of the playing process. All in all, this is a solid product which will help you learn to pay the piano. It has the ability to allow you to start from beginner, intermediate or advanced player, and will take you through all stages so by the end, you should be able to put together complex pieces from the sheet music displayed (or printed) by the software.

Not the best
This is quite a tedious set of lessons. I guess it's like having a real piano teacher whos a bit strict. Learning with this was not fun and you feel like you're not going anywhere. I've found better resources online which are free.
