The Secret Path [DVD]

Two stars for this movie were simply because it should be praised for its' ambition and nothing more - in this instance it failed to achieve.From what I understand (the plot was hard to grasp), two lovers are hiding in the grounds of a stately home and are being haunted by somebody they abandoned once upon a time- it seems he was yanked behind a statue and one of the couple is having visions of the same happening to him.The problem is the poor production values mean that it's hard to hear what either of them are saying most of the time, and as a result it's hard to follow what's going on. Showing 'artistic' shots of swaying trees or black and white shots of people hiding in the bushes looking menacing doesn't help explain things either.I'm not one of those who believes a gay film *has* to have a sex scene in it to be interesting, and yes there is one in this movie (actually there are two, but it looks like they filmed one and used it twice). But to me it just looks like the characters are doing it to relieve the sense of boredom.There could have been something interesting, but the poor sound, shaky screens and confusing plot just seem to make it more like a home made movie on a camcorder and I ended up giving my copy to the charity shop.

Ok this is not a good film. It's a gay film yes but it's so horribly amateurishly made it's more scary than anything that happens in the film - which is not a good thing, and there's hardly anything good here at all. There are NO subtitles of any kind. The running time is mercifully brief at an hour and 17 minutes. There IS one great gay sex scene bug the music that is played during it is so ruinous that it takes away the one good thing this film had going for it. This film is NOT an 18. This film is barely watchable. I'm thinking that this film is supposed to be a gay supernatural horror thriller well it is none of the above aside from gay. There's a whole load of crap here and it's almost as dire as the other gay film Celluloid. Not a film I can recommend. However bad this film may be it is nowhere near as bad as The X Factor or Cheryl Tweedy Cole Fernandez whatever her name is. And it's certainly not as bad as SpiceWorld: The Movie.

An interesting variation on the gay film genre. The sense of fear surrounding the two naval deserters gave plenty of opportunity for physical acts of reassurance by cuddling, kissing and sexual activity. Apparently these lovers had escaped a scurvy-ridden ship and ended up in Windsor Great Park. A story beyond the narrow confines of the first few days wandering in fear of a haunting would have been more interesting. Homosexual lovers would have been safe in the navy, but have risked hanging on land. The expressed wish to go to America would have been little better unless the events post-date the War of Independence. Could two gay men ever have hoped to set up a life together in 18th century England? The project was doomed from the start. Still, nicely filmed and acted and the music was a pleasure.

Impulse purchase after visiting Hindhead in Surrey. Gibet's hill was used to hang highway thieves and murderers. An unknown Portsmouth sailor is buried at nearby Thursley after being murdered. The Dvd with it's period sailors haunted in a wood was an attempt to understand what really happened....

If you like to watch 2 men walking through the woods, with lots of hand held camera sequences and lots of good music; well this is for you!!!!!!!!!!! If you want something with a lot of interest, quality production and enthralling; well this is not for you!!!!!!!! This is a poor quality "Ghost Story", wjth poor quality Ghosts!! I feel my money would have been better spent on a Peperoni Pizza. Honestly it would have more bite.

I was disappointed. The storyline was non linear. Normally this does not matter but I found it hard to connect with the characters. The sound track was very poor and distracting. I would not recommend it.

This is a most amateurish filmed story with only the two runaway actors in period clothing, some softporn, a handheld camera and a storyline (if there is one). Some classical music thrown in to suggest the historical setting. Waste of time.

Yes it's low budget, yes it's a touching love story with a twist, loving the classical music that plays out through most of the film. It's British and much better than a lot of the rubbish that comes out of America.

Film low budget ma realizzato molto bene, bella fotografia, location, ottime musiche ed effetti sonori, gli attori sono straordinari e attraenti, e il film in pratica si regge sulla loro interpretazione e sul loro rapporto. L'idea e la trama del film sono originali ma forse la sceneggiatura poteva essere sviluppata meglio dato che, per molti aspetti, la vicenda rimane incomprensibile, il che può essere cosa voluta, ma qui forse si passa la misura, nonostante questo, e una certa particolare lentezza, il film è avvincente, mantiene un'interessante tensione e incute anche una buona dose di paura (subito dopo la visione io di certo in un bosco da solo non ci andrei!)

ne vous faites pas avoir... aucun intérêt, ridicule et prétentieux... c'est tellement nul et vide qu'on ne trouve pas grand chose à dire d'autre...

The Secret Path, the latest from the bold and innovative team of Mansfield Dark, tells the story of Theo and Frank. They abandon ship and are on the run from the British Navy sometime in the 17th century. They are also lovers. Frank tenderly assures Theo of a better life for both of them. What I love about the film is the minute you think you know where it is going, it keeps taking that hard left. Secrets are then revealed, and both men go to desperate measures to stay alive. Great performances, music, direction, writing and costumes. This film is for every gay horror fan!!

Anche meno di una stella. Inutile. Lento. Poco chiaro. Non ho capito il senso. Mi sono ritrovato a schiacciare l'avanzamento veloce con la speranza di trovare una sequenza chiave. Niente. Perplesso.
