Worth it, if you don't have time to build one.
Look, this would be very easy to build - but you're here because you don't have that time. It's well engineered, with solid wood and locking bolts. You could even add a little wood glue. Yes, the sand will get wet: The under-side is a plastic sheet - with holes to allow drainage. After putting it together, I realized how necessary that is, or it would be completely reliant on evaporating pooled water from 600-800 lbs of sand. That also means that water will soak the sand from the bottom if the sandbox is placed where runoff water pools or flows. The mesh net cover allows for evaporation. I bought a waterproof plastic cover for rainy days, but will generally leave it off because condensation collects under it and holds in moisture. I also took 15 minutes to coat on an additional layer of clear sealant, addressing mold concerns from other reviews. Will probably empty, dry, and refill it once per year (if it lasts). Finally, I would count on 600 lbs of sand minimum (12x 50lb bags). I put in 700 (14x 50lb bags). 900-100 lbs will fill sand right up to the corner seats. Purchase or order sand from a hardware store. Prices on this app are 8x what I paid. Also, note that play sand is bagged with moisture for packing purposes. Account for a little time to dry for your kiddos.

Loads of fun!
I have two little boys, one of whom is too small to play in a sandbox yet, but I wanted to make sure we got a sandbox that would be large enough for them both once he gets old enough. Those little plastic crab and turtle sandboxes are so cute, but I thought they would be too small. The Kidkraft Backyard Sandbox is just what we were looking for! It's plenty large enough for multiple kids to play, and the bench seats in the corners are very handy. They are sturdy enough for me to sit on, too.As for fun value, my not-quite-three-year-old will play in there indefinitely. He spent hours in it the day we filled it, and about an hour of that was without any toys! The sandbox was easy to put together, and is made of high quality wood. We just put a tarp under it to hold in the sand. The cover works fine to keep out leaves, cats, etc. We put in 15 50-lb. bags of sand, and it probably needs another 2 or 3, just to give folks an idea of how much it will hold.Bottom line, great sandbox and a great way to keep your kids entertained for hours!

Easy to assemble, nice design
I bought this sandbox for my 3 girls to play in. I was able to assemble it very easily myself and didn't need any tools other than the included Allen wrench. The instructions say to use a flat head screwdriver for a couple of things but I didn't need it. I really like the design of this box with the 4 corners as places to sit. My kids can sit on the corners and have plenty of room for sand creations without getting in each other's way. The corner seats also help prevent lots of sand from getting in their pants. We filled the box with 18 fifty-pound bags of sand (9 cubic feet) which cost about $50.The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because one of the corner seat's screw holes didn't line up quite right. I ended up not fastening 2 of the points but I feel it will still be plenty sturdy for my little girls. If not, I can get the power drill out and easily take care of it. Another very minor issue was with the mesh cover. It uses Velcro to stay put but one of the Velcro straps had 2 of the same Velcro parts and, therefore, wouldn't attach. Not a huge deal though. We've only had this sandbox for a couple of days but so far, so good.

Buy with Confidence - Great Sandbox!
I had read and been concerned about some of the reviews. You can buy with confidence! It was easy to assemble...took well under and hour. The instructions are easy to follow, and even though I didn’t need it, they include extra hardware! Who does that? It smelled amazing coking together - that aromatic cedar. The seats are sturdy. The cover does fit quite well. It’s a great size. All you need from your toolbox is a phillips head screwdriver, and you could probably do without it! I was thinking of making one myself. I am so glad I didn’t! And all the pieces arrived in good shape very quickly. Have owned it one day.

The sand box cover does not fit
The wood is somewhat soft and the corner seats won’t hold a big child. Careful who sits on it. I love the size of the box, has a lot of sand and is big enough for my 9 year old twins. My biggest problem is that the cover that comes with it, does not fit at all. It is to small, and this will not keep out the neighborhood animals. This is very disappointing. I have had to purchase a separate cover. I feel they threw that in so they could charge more.Overall, the box is a good size, you need to buy a nee cover, and I recommend getting some good weather stain to protect the soft wood. The summer sun is going to deteriorate it fast otherwise.

Perfect for our yard
This sandbox has been working great for our yard. It is so much bigger than what we had previously and the kids are enjoying playing in it. The bottom is a clear plastic with holes and I stapled it to the edges because there are a lot of gaps when you use just what is provided. The mesh cover it comes with is pretty much useless because its mesh and you have to tie it in the holes of the box. It doesn't protect much so we bought a separate water proof cover which I would recommend doing.

Yes, it is pinewood and it may not last ...
Yes, it is pinewood and it may not last forever. But it is worth the money. My kid is three and he loves it! The box is big enough to keep him busy. No playgrounds with sandboxes in the neighborhood, so this one is a lifesaver. I bought an extra tarp to keep it clean and dry when not in use. The only challenge is filling all that volume. 900 pounds of sand!!! This is what you see in my photo. This sandbox builds your stamina! As for the assembly, it was very straightforward. I've read a few reviews back here, so I made sure I copied the numbers on the box just in case.
