Jerkies prepared like this is a pretty rare find in a grocery store, unless you start to go out into the country. Dry and salty, these make excellent treats, but I recommend you eat them a few pieces at a time. I wasn't crazy about the flavor - it's very salty, like the old world would have prepared perishables for long storage with salt - kind of salty. It's also drier - yet tender - so if you're in for a specific mouthfeel from beef jerkies, this might not be an ideal choice. I did like it though, because it was both nostalgic, and gave me a chance to appreciate a sense of a long-standing tradition/practice. I perceived this as good value when compared with other beef jerkies, which to me seemed to have far too much waterweight to the price per ounce I was paying. This is a full bag of very dry jerky. It reconstituted to much more in my stomach :)

This product used to be my go to jerky. It was tough and dry and had great flavor. Something has changed over the past year. I continue yes to order thinking I got a bad batch or two, but it has continued to fall. The batch I got today has a bad taste and is soft and chewy. It’s gross.

The real deal! This isn’t your run-of-the-mill Jerky that’s been chemically softened and tastes like all the rest. This is dry and hearty. The Old Country is perfect for someone who likes salt and doesn’t like Jalapeño in everything on the planet. There is just enough black pepper to get your attention, and the flavor is really good.

Why does a product put on their packaging no/low sugar and then have high fructose corn syrup and brown sugar high in the ingredients? Jerky doesn’t need sugar. It’s like eating a sugar soy salt chew. What’s wrong with traditional jerky? It’s gooy, hard to chew because it doesn’t break up normally, and really sweet and the high saltiness comes from soy sauce. It’s awful. Yes, it’s real pieces of nicely cut meat, but it’s all downhill from there, no taste of meat at all. None. It was supposed to be hickory smoked, non of that comes through. Would have much better, or even edible if the treatment were actually old fashioned. What part of high fructose corn syrup, brown sugar and soy sauce is part of an old fashioned family recipe? I should have read the back of the bag ingredients before ordering, instead of the misleading marketing on the front of the bag. My bad. If you are watching sugar and soy/salt in your diet, don’t eat this jerky. Just mix some syrup and soy sauce in a bowl and drink it, then you don’t have to bother with the impossible endless chewing trying to get it down part.
