Surprisingly good
It's really quite good at simplifying the mystique of French cooking. Maximum of 6 ingredients per recipe and they're really quite good. No nonsense, nothing complicated, just good provincial cooking. Be sure to try the duck terrine. It's to die for.

This is a great take on quick meals
This is a great take on quick meals;love the beef/cucumber/basil, and have tried a couple of others; some look a little too good to be true......so, I'll wait and see.......

it's easy, but sometimes uncomplicated is just what you need
It's a duplicate of Simple, The Easiest Cookbook in the World, which I had purchased. That's the reason for the 3 star rating. Yes, it's easy, but sometimes uncomplicated is just what you need.

Best cook book I've bought
A friend recommended this book and it does not disappoint. Whether you are new to cooking or more experienced but do not want to spend much time cooking, this book is packed with recipes which are extremely simple and yet not basic. The photos of each ingredient for each recipe provide clarity and makes cooking more amenable.

Simple and quick recipes - Perfect for weeknight meals
This is not a French cookbook - to get that detail out of the way. There are recipes from all corners of the world, including France.Considering that the cover brashly shouts about French cuisine in your face - it is a point worth mentioning. It actually doesn't matter though, because what you have is a collection of super-simple, well photographed, step-by-step recipes, many with just a handful of ingredients. While i concede that this book is squarely aimed at the novice/beginner cook (and if you fit that bill, buy it!) - I personally bought it for a different reason - the weekday dinner. Assuming that you are time-poor but strive to cook fresh meals everyday, then this book is brilliantly positioned to deliver you a plethora of quick-to-cook yet delicious recipes, many using store cupboard staples. For the experienced cook, the recipes are somewhat dumbed down for brevity, but they still taste great; and if you know what you are doing, you can of course tweak and add to them as you see fit.I have some 150 cookbooks in my collection, a handful i cook from regularly. This book gets the most attention.I knocked a star from my rating as i think the book title is misleading to those seeking nothing but French recipes - that aside, it's a great buy.

The best cook book I've ever had.
I LOVE this book! Really easy to use. I don't feel I have to use it for special meals, although the recipes are special and, on occasion, very luxurious.
