Becoming a Student Midwife: The Survival Guide for Passionate Applicants - Second Edition

Clear, concise and confidence boosting.
I loved this book. I bought this after I wrote my personal statement (which I thought was good) but after reading the personal statement chapter, I realised was not good at all. The tips on how to write a personal statement allowed me to realise my own strengths and how to write them down on paper properly. So I re-wrote it before sending off by UCAS. And I got an interview. The tips on interview day were amazing and really helped with my nerves. I also loved the list of potential questions and answers. The reading list is informative. And I got an offer at my first choice. So I'm very happy. It made preparing for my interview stress free and I actually felt more excited and confident, rather than a bag of nerves going in to my interview.

A must have for aspiring student midwives
I bought this book as I was preparing for interviews to study midwifery at university. It was invaluable in giving tips on what to prepare; the panel interview questions were brilliant in giving me good ideas on what the interviewers would be looking for and how to answer in a way that shows your best qualities. There were also guidance on how to write a cracking personal statement although I didn’t use this as I got the book after I’d already applied to university.I got multiple offers from universities which you will know if you’re an aspiring student midwife is absolutely amazing!I had no experience in a healthcare environment unlike a lot of applicants but I still got offers which just goes to show how doing the right prep before your interview can seriously make a good impression.I have the author of this book, Ellie, to thank for that!I could not recommend this book more!!5 stars!!!

A brilliant book, (apparently).
Bought this for my granddaughter before she started at university, she is now fully qualified, so perhaps it did help her! I can`t comment on the subject matter or content...

this book is just amazing!!
Where do I start, this book is just amazing!!! It is the same structure as the first edition so you can just dip in and out of it no matter where you are up to on your journey to becoming a midwife. I found the chapters on different interview methods invaluable as even though I don't have an interview yet if i am lucky to get even one this book has helped with so many things that were playing on my mind. It is easy to understand and is crammed with so many useful resources i suggest highlighting them so its easy to find them when flipping through looking for a specific one.The sample maths and English tests are fab and really helpful. I cannot recommend this book highly enough and if you don't already have the first edition i recommend you also have a read of that as the content is also amazing. Thank you for writing these books Ellie you have no idea how much you have helped me with all the information you have provided.

Invaluable for aspiring midwifery students
This was one of the first books I bought when I decided to look into applying for midwifery. As a ‘mature’ student at the grand age of 31 who had never gone through the UCAS process before, it was invaluable. I’d written a sort of personal statement before the book arrived but then changed it after reading, reading both back now you can see which one stands out. I received interviews for all my choices and looked to the book again for interview tips. I received a place for my first choice university 3 days after interview. I really don’t think I’d have been successful if this book hadn’t prepared me like it did.

To anyone interest in pursuing a career in midwifery
The book Becoming a Student Midwife by Ellie Durant is an excellent book to read if you are thinking of or are applying to study midwifery in the UK.Within its pages, the book brings accessible and easy to understand step by step guidance to be a successful applicant starting by choosing a suitable university for you, how to write a personal statement, how to go about the numeracy and literacy test and including how to do well in your interview. With plenty of exercises for you to do and examples that you can follow. The book is well written, with plain English text and meaningful observations made by the author. The content is up to date and very useful to its readers. There is also humour included in some chapters which makes the context less heavy and more enjoyable.I would without a doubt recommend this book to anyone interested in pursuing a career in midwifery.

The 'Bible' for all aspiring midwives! Praise for Ellie!
What a fabulous and addictive formative read!I really don't know where to start on how to tell you why this book is so so great.I've now read it twice in the past 9 days, I just haven't been able to put it down and have been reading it at every available opportunity.... even whilst cooking dinner and bathing the little one. From the genuine tone of the writer (Ellie you're a star) to just feeling a connection that takes away the fear of applying of a possible rejection. Its got everything here that will help set me and you on the right path to a successful application.I've previously applied to midwifery, so this will be my second cycle. After reading the book and then rereading my previous personal statement, I do not blame the admissions tutors for a rejecting it. It was horrendous as I fell into the 'parent trap' and also didn't write about transferable skills in the way that they apply to midwifery. This has got to be my best book buy ever, I'm an avid reader so I have a lot....of books! My personal statement is now complete and sat waiting for UCAS to open, I believe it really does have everything in there that will hopefully make the admissions tutors look twice, fingers crossed! One more thing....BUY IT NOW...BUY IT NOW.....BUY IT NOW.....you won't regret it!
