An excellent alternative to inkjet-based printers, & cheaper
Wish I'd gotten this for my father-in-law instead of the Canon photo-printer that cost more than twice as much, and has not quite as good picture quality. And at the time I thought the Canon was pretty good. Also, there are more features and settings included on this unit. Yes, the special paper isn't cheap, so FROOGLE for a good price and buy in bulk. Heck, it teaches you and yours to be a little judicious with what you choose to print. ;-) I also suspect/hope the price will come down as more people discover this alternative to less than permanent inkjet images, and depleted, dried up, and clogged inkjet reservoirs, and the various annoyances that happen when you don't use your inkjet-based unit regularly.Loading the color cartridge is very easy; navigating the menu settings is easy and intuitive; accepts the standard array of flash memory cards; nice quality LCD display on which you may view four pics simultaneously; general construction is not flimsy, even attractive, and looks like it should last a good while. Pictures haven't had any pixelation - very photo-lab-like - and seem to be just as resistant to moisture as processed film. But my favorite feature (one that you'll want the kids to watch to learn the principles of a three-color system) is seeing the unit pull the paper through, coming out the back, then sliding back in to come out the front, with the yellow application, and then again the same sheet goes back and forth to get the red treatment, and then again to get the blue treatment, and then a "finalizing" step. Some may think that's not quite as quick as paper gradually creeping out of an inkjet photo-printer (I haven't stop-watched it), but its fast enough for me and keeps me entertained in the process.I was really disappointed that a recent issue of Consumer Reports was still focusing on inkjets, and gave very little attention to alternative devices - hey, I like CR, but if they want to serve the consumer, they'd do well to better present these alternatives since many people will find them to be better and cheaper. One nit to pick... the quick setup guide is basically graphical, with hardly any language instruction, so wasn't too impressed with that, but on the other hand, it was so simple and intuitive to put together that I had my 7th grade daughter try it, which she did easily, plus if you want more detail there is a Users Guide on the included CD.Again, cannot beat the price.

Thanks Samsung :(
one star for lack of support. 3 years after I bought this printer ( which is wonderful ) I cannot find paper, ink, drivers anywhere. Idiots. ( I include me in this group for buying Samsung ). I bought the printer for $50. If you want one now, apparently it's $400, but you can't find paper or ink . Brilliant.

Great photos, but software too slow
We bought this printer several months back. It prints beautiful photos, generally well-balanced colors and of a good quality. The final layer is waterproof and fingerprintproof, so it is great for making prints to share with friends and family (especially kids)The only problem with the printer is that when you put in a memory card, it takes a long time to browse the photos. This is not a problem if you have a small memory card, but with a large collection of photos on a card it is impractical to browse the photos quickly enough, and even going from one photo to the next takes quite a few seconds. The onscreen menus for editing/changing photos is also quite limited. The best way to use the printer is to download the photos off your memory card onto a computer, select the ones you want to print, and dump them onto another memory card. Then, insert that into the printer and press the PRINT-ALL button.A final note: this printer uses a special type of Samsung cartridge and Samsung paper that you have to buy as a bundle. You should only purchase this printer if you live in a place geographically close to a supplier that stocks it for a reasonable price, otherwise it is a hassle.

Pictures Now!
I bought this yty and went home and started printing away. Its alot of fun. I took the 'worst' of the photos to work and showed it to colleagues. Not one of them thought it was from a computer. The quality is like getting them developed. It may take a minute to print but you can choose a bunch and print them and just let the printer do its thing. So don't think you have to sit over the printer while it does each one. However, you can only do 20 at a time. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because a) there was no cable to connect to PC (this is available only in some countries) and I think its beyond stupid to sell such a product and not throw in a cable (fortunately I have one which I use with my exterior hard drive), b) the directions in the box are practically non-existant. The booklet has little info and is in a zillion languages. Better to keep in english and make the book more extensive, and c)There is a USB port but the machine will not read a memory stick. You have to play around with it but once u get it then you'll fall in love with this little gadget. Samsung though needs to lower the price of the paper and ribbon. Their profit margin on the accessory must be through the roof. Overall I highly recommend. However if you take lots of pictures and don't consider it a hassle to drop files/films off to be developed then this is a waste of money. Personally I don't have the time to take my files to be developed so I love it.

Samsung SPP-2040
This is a great little printer. I bought for my wife who does a lot of scrapbooking and puts it through its paces. The picture quality is amazing and its a breeze to use. It prints a 4x6 print in about 60sec or slightly less. Very versitile printer for an amazingly low price (Amazon had the best price)Very happy with this purchase and would strongly recomend this printer.
