Easy way to utilize unused SATA ports as eSATA
I'm using this with an ASUS TUF GAMING Z590 PLUS Wi-Fi motherboard, and so far, it has worked exactly as expected. Having two eSATA ports is nice, especially if you need to use a SATA based optical drive on a PC which does not have any 5.25 inch bays. There are several other reasons one may want to use eSATA. USB to SATA adapters do NOT support S.M.A.R.T or TRIM, both of which will work via eSATA. Another instance where using eSATA might be useful, is if your PC only has a single USB controller (which is common for most Intel motherboards). USB power can be a bit finicky, and the more USB devices you attach to a single controller, the higher the likelyhood of running in to some random USB power issue that can take your entire controller offline.TL;DR If you find yourself needing to connect multiple SATA devices to your PC externally, this is an excellent approach if you are looking to have options that don't involve USB to SATA adapters.

Good value adapter for legacy ESATA
Using in a home TrueNAS build with old LaCie ESATA HDD enclosures for offline/offsite backups of SSD and SAS storage. Works great to extend SATA for my needs, replicating nightly/ad-hoc for backups and offline storage. Yes, ESATA is old technology, but it is stable. And works. Particularly in my scenario for offline backups with legacy HDDs.

Exactly what I needed
Shoutouts to Startech for always making incredibly specific and niche products that you always wind up needing. I had an old PC case with an eSATA port I used regularly, and I needed to upgrade the case without sacrificing the port. This simple bracket with a port on it was all I needed and lets me connect harddrives plug and play eSATA with no issue. I have no idea how many people need something like this but I'm glad it exists for my use case!

Works fine BUT the cables are short
This item works fine and inexpensive. BUT, the cables are only about 1 ft. long.Depends on your MB's layout and the position of the empty slot on your case, 1ft may or may not be TOO SHORT! You need to consider how to route and measure the length and the stiffness of the cable before you buy. In my case, it was barely enough. Had the SATA connectors was on the side like my other MB, the cable will fall short and I have to return it. The cable should be at least 50% longer if not double it.

Excellent interface to add ESATA ports to a desktop unit.
High quality bracket and connectors. The SATA cables are a bit short and just barely made it to the SATA ports on an ASUS motherboard. On an ASUS board, the SATA ports are located farthest from the back of the desktop case which is worst case. Even with that, the cables were still long enough to just reach the port connectors, so this worked out well. I've attached a 6 foot ESATA cable to the computer and been able to run an external CD/DVD drive at top speed with no problems or hickups. Works great. BobM

Does what it is made to do, but it may not be the best choice for some..
This item is relatively inexpensive and works as advertised. It allows for an outside eSata connection on your case. I bought it because I wanted to use an eSata connection for my external hard drive enclosure. It works just fine, but there is a catch. Unfortunately my motherboard is not "hot swappable" capable. In other words, if I turn off my external hard drive and back on again, the computer will not pick up the external hard drive until I reboot with the hard drive enclosure left on. To prevent this from happening, I should have bought a more expensive PCI adapter card. That was my fault and not the item's. If I had to criticize this item, I would say that the sata cord could be a little longer. I did not measure it, but I would guess that it is a little less than a foot as advertised. Regardless, 2 or 3 more inches would be better. However, it did reach the sata connectors on my motherboard, but with little to spare.
