poly is the way to go
Ive bought these from like 4 different vendors. some are new, some are not. they can all be factory reset if you know what you are doing. If you are using a service like nextiva, standard software works. if google voice, must be reflashed with OBI operating system.

Not Compatible with Google Voice in 2023
There are lots of Q&As, reviews, and even Polycom's website says this is compatible with Google Voice. That may have been the case at some point, but as of April 2023 at least that is 100% not true anymore. Apparently you used to be able to install different software on these that WAS compatible with google voice, but in June 2022 Polycom started shipping these with new firmware that is no longer compatible with Google Voice. So, don't waste your time and money on this if you're looking for a desk phone for google voice. Polycom's product page is still advertising it works with google voice, but their support page says otherwise:"ARTICLE ID:000033811SETTING UP POLY OBI EDITION FOR GOOGLE VOICEImportant Note: The new VVX 250, 350 & 450 with hardware revision announced via Engineering Advisory 210826 is not supported by Poly OBi Edition software and a conversion as described in other articles is not supported. Poly is reviewing support of OBi Edition software on the new hardware revision of VVX 250, VVX 350, and VVX 450 and will issue a notification ahead of any changes. How to tell a VVX 250, 350 & 450 with the hardware revision: (shipping as of June 2022)..."This article was from November 2022, and there has been no update in the last 6 months.

OBI model phone: Less compatible. But I solved the password problem, on mine at least.
I see many struggle to find the admin password, here's what worked for me:1) Turn on the phone ( you will need o source POE power or a power supply)2) Click the Home key3) Select Settings4) Note the IP address under the Network option5) Enter that number into the browser on a computer in the same network6) You should get a username / password prompt7) enter admin for both username and password8) You're in!I was also able to unlock admin services in the settings menu using the password 'admin'. Watch the mode button to be sure you're entering what you think you are. Hope this helps!Very clean phone, seems brand new. But mine is an OBI version phone, which is not supported by either of the VOIP services I am considering. This was not mentioned anywhere in this product description. Will be returning.

phone arrived with another customer's ACTIVE credentials
I have ordered these 6 different times. One of them came fully configured with an active account from a previous customer and the caller ID came back to applegreen a convenience store chain. Another one had the OBI talk firmware which is a major pain to remove and replace with the normal firmware. These phones are not always factory new, they may come with custom firmware or even fully provisioned for other customers. There is a procedure to factory reset these without knowing the password, but I don't have the time for it nor wanted to purchase anything less than 100% un-touched brand-new devices.

settle in for a ride if you want to use this with google voice
How to set up Google Voice:1. Order one of the only 4 phone models that work with google voice2. Open box to set up phone3. Close box and order power cable – sold separately for…reasons4. Plug in phone and connect to network5. Discover that THE phone that works with google does not have wifi6. Options – order a wifi bridge to plug in OR a 50 foot network cable to string through the house7. Plug phone into wifi bridge and separately purchased power cord and set up on google voice8. Discover that even though you put polycom vvx250 into amazon search, you somehow ordered the version without the x and thus it will not work with google voice9. Return phone and purchase correct model10. Plug phone into power cord and wifi bridge11. Start setting up phone, phone keeps cutting on and off12. Check power cable and discover that the “sold with” power cable is the wrong thing13. Order new power cable14. Plug up phone and start the setup15. Spend hours online with google help desk updating the firmware to something that still won’t connect16. Log into phone’s IP address and get password error17. Shout at innocent person on google helpdesk who has no idea what the password is but that yes, running the firmware update changed it18. Discover that for my security the password was changed from 456 to admin19. Really? That was like my 3rd guess after 123 and user and I’m not a hacker20. Log into phone’s IP using the password admin – all lowercase and update the firmware to the version that was sent to me in a link from google chat support21. Briefly price the cost of installing a land line after receiving ERROR on both noise reduction and non noise reduction versions of firmware22. Walk away for blood pressure reasons and then the next morning…23. Back on the chat with google, given new link with different version of firmware24. Watch with a mix of excitement and anxiety as phone reboots many many times, pauses just long enough to make you think it’s hung up, but then it starts up again25. With no uncertain measure of trepidation make a test call and OMG it actually went through26. Sit quietly drinking coffee and wonder why if there are only 4 very specific Polycom phones that work with google voice, why there aren’t set procedures or hey this is a crazy idea, why doesn’t the damn thing come ready to go

doesnt come with a power cord!
I can't believe it doesn't come with a power cord! I thought I must have misplaced it somewhere but to find out that it never had one in the first place.

comes with OBI firmware - can't provision with 8x8
there's nothing wrong with the phone, and this is our favorite model , solid and reliable. whoever , these units (bought 2) came with OBI firmware and we were unable to provision them to 8x8. had to send back and order regular ones with standard firmware
